Sign the petition calling for the Prime Minister to set an Australia-wide net zero emissions by 2050 policy (links in bio).

——

My name is Anika Molesworth and I raise sheep with my family near Broken Hill. I love the ancient gum trees and incredible wildlife I share my home with. I am proud to grow food for people, and it is breaking my heart that climate change makes it harder and harder for farmers like us to do this.

Last summer, as the rest of the country burned, we sweltered through the hottest summer on record. I have watched the trees die, the wildlife disappear, and our sheep be sent away. I want nothing more than to be able to focus on the day-to-day issues of our farm, be it a busted water pipe, or fixing a fence. But with climate change looming over my future, I have no choice but to take a stand.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, farmers are looking for leadership from your Government and it is currently lacking. The National Farmers' Federation, representing more than 80,000 Australian farmers, supports an economy wide target of net zero carbon emission by 2050.

We call on you and your government to support this policy and get Australia moving to a low carbon future.

Specifically, we want:

1. As a first step, set a net zero emissions by 2050 target
2. Adopt the policies that will get us there.

Follow the links in our bio to read the full petition and to sign it!

We did it we won!!!! Mullum Farmers Market has been officially awarded the ‘Most Outstanding Farmers’ Market in the country by the 2020 delicious Harvey Norman Produce Awards.

This was the second year we’ve been announced as one of three markets in the country to be shortlisted as a finalist. This year we faced stiff competition from Kiama Farmers Market and Alphington Farmers' Market. So we’re delighted today to be announced as the winners for 2020!!!

Delicious Harvey Norman Produce Awards has been running for 15 years and is regarded as the most prestigious food industry awards. It’s judging panel includes some of Australia’s most renowned chefs such as Guillaume Brahimi, Peter Gilmore, Matt Moran, Neil Perry, Danielle Alvarez, Colin Fassnidge, along with the delicious team.

What a year it’s been too. Kickstarting with drought, bushfires, flood and then COVID!!! It felt like 2020 was the year that just kept punching, so we can’t tell you how much this recognition means to all our amazing and extremely hardworking farmers and producers. It’s incredible how they achieve not only the consistency but the quality too. If you have time to stop and ask they are happy to share all their secrets!

If nothing else, this year has taught us how important it is to support our local food economies. We wouldn’t have been be able to maintain this without the support of our community. A big thank you to all of you too. #knowyourproduce #produceawards #makeitdelicious #producetoyou @deliciousaus @harveynormanau
It's hard to believe that it's been two years sinc It's hard to believe that it's been two years since we last wrote an article for our "Getting farmers markets right" series.

What the..?
.
Well, at least it shows we don't let things go.

In our third article, we dive deep into why a community-owned organisational structure is one of the best practice principles for starting and operating a successful, genuine farmers market.

Tell us what you think. Is your market operated as a not-for-profit community enterprise?

Market operators: when was the last time a custome Market operators: when was the last time a customer left a review of your market on your Google Business listing or Facebook page? When was the last time you ASKED your customers to leave a review on your Google Business listing or Facebook page?

Customers: have you left a review of your farmers market on their Google Business listing or their Facebook page?
.
Ratings and reviews are incredibly valuable to markets and aren't leveraged anything like as much as they could be. What's more, they're free!
.
But you know who DOES leave reviews? Unhappy customers. Get on the front foot and ask your customers to leave reviews everywhere. You can also respond to their reviews. It's a great way to engage with customers.

Don't forget there's also Tripadvisor, another valuable marketing tool. Heck, there's a bunch of them.

We've provided a series of blog posts with all sorts of marketing advice like this to help farmers markets make the most of free or low-cost marketing tools. Check them out!
